2020 UFOMT INTERNSHIP UTAH HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL THEATRE AWARDS
UFOMT PROFESSIONAL MUSICAL THEATRE INTERNSHIP
UFOMT sponsors two Summer Artist Internships through UHSMTA each year. Two Utah High School students who display promise and drive in the field of musical theatre are awarded with paid professional internships to join the company’s summer season. Interns gain valuable knowledge and experience as they rehearse and perform alongside artists from the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Broadway, and everywhere in between.
The internship program for 2020 will run from May 21, 2020 through August 8, 2020. Artists chosen for this position will perform in at least two of UFOMT’s mainstage productions: She Loves Me, Sweeney Todd, The Magic Flute, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, with additional performance opportunities throughout the season.

WHAT THE 2013 INTERNS HAD TO SAY ABOUT THE PROGRAM
PETER LABARGE | LOGAN HIGH SCHOOL
My experience with UFOMT was phenomenal, and an absolute “dream come true”. As a Festival Artist Intern, I was able to work with professionals in both Musical Theatre and Opera performance. While there, you have the opportunity to make connections, work hard in a professional theatre company, perform on the Ellen Eccles stage, and gain invaluable tips and experience from your fellow company members. The diversity of the performers is wonderful, and they have valuable insight to share about how being in the theatrical profession is like.
The rehearsal process, although grueling (which is expected from a professional company), is a wonderful experience to teach you how to work hard, be a “team-player”, and also an opportunity to be a good professional by taking constructive criticisms, new blocking, or tips. The wonderful opportunity also given by UFOMT is the diversity of shows that you are able to perform in. I was able to perform in the two musical theatre productions, but also in Wagner’s “Der Fliegende Holländer” (The Flying Dutchman). It’s not every day that a young performer gets to be in a Wagnerian Opera!
My experience with UFOMT was wonderful, and the professional skills you learn from the directors, performers, and Company heads are skills that you need to have in the performing arts. I loved being with the Company as an Intern, and I would love to be a Festival Artist for next season.
CASEY GREENWOOD | CLEARFIELD HIGH SCHOOL
My experience with the Utah Festival Opera Company was truly a dream come true. I had always wanted to work with a professional company, but never imagined that it would actually happen–and so soon! I learned so many invaluable lessons from my experience, not only about the professional world, but also about myself! I felt so incredibly small at the beginning of the summer, but through the help of my newly-found friends, I was able to grow in so many ways that I never could have otherwise. I was able to recognize my weaknesses and embrace my strengths. I still have much more to learn, but my internship this summer showed me how I can improve step by step in the best way for me, personally!
I feel so much more prepared for my future now, and I look forward to the day that I can return to work with the Utah Festival Opera Company! I shall be eternally grateful for this incredible experience
