Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre is seeking applicants for a full time Technical Director position. The Technical Director will oversee the technical needs (Scenic, Lighting, A/V, and Props) of our growing summer festival currently consisting of 5-6 productions in 2 venues and as well as 4-5 concerts and events. The ideal candidate will have a diverse range of experience and training in theatre technology as well as knowledge in lighting and A/V. Available benefits include health, dental, vision and 403B.
Experience:
Masters in Fine Arts (MFA) preferred, or Bachelors of Arts (BA, BFA) in Technical Theatre plus 3-5 years professional experience.Minimum Qualifications:
Must have working knowledge of standard scenic construction and practices
Must have CAD drafting abilities (AutoCAD, Vectorworks)
Shop management experience
Basic knowledge of Lighting and A/V equipment
Ability to lift 75 lbs
Willing to work flexible hours as needed
Excellent time management, financial budgeting, and interpersonal communication skillsPreferred Qualifications:
Scenic and/or lighting design experience
Experience working with undergraduate students
Knowledge of automated lighting and digital sound equipment
Scenic rental or touring experience a plus
Reparatory experience a plus
Opera experience a plusResponsibilities:
Prepare and manage budgets for all applicable departments
Manage build schedule
Oversees all purchasing for applicable departments
Hire and oversee all shop staff year round and seasonal (scenic, lighting, props, A/V)
Mange scenery and props rentals along with Managing Director
Generates all CAD drafting
Assist in shop organization and maintenance
Assist in season planning and scheduling
Basic upkeep and maintenance in scene shop and Utah Theatre
Insure all safety practices and protocols are followed
Document all productions kept for rentals
Assist in hiring for applicable designers
Work with designers to make all productions work in Rep.
Provide instruction on safe and efficient use of tools, equipment, and facilities
Attend all specified rehearsals, tech/dress rehearsals, production and staff meetings, and all other applicable events

Contract Information:
All positions are paid stipends DOE and include full housing (private room with shared bathroom), full travel (round trip airfare or driving reimbursement of $0.36 per mile up to $600.00).
